Information for Volunteers:

A number of volunteer opportunities are available for the 2008 Canadian Tour Players Cup. Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of two (2) four hour shifts throughout the week in order to be eligible for volunteer benefits.

A wide variety of job opportunities are available, with varying time commitments throughout the week. See the following list of volunteer positions and job descriptions of each.

Admissions

Members of the admissions committee are stationed at the front gate and public entrance and collect money from ticket sales.

Shift Days:
Thursday through Sunday
Time Commitment:
The front and public entrance is open from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm; shifts are generally 4 – 6 hours and are required for the morning and afternoons.
Duties:
Collecting money for ticket sales, ensure the appropriate entrance into the facility of accredited personnel.

Marshals

The marshals committee is responsible for crowd and noise control on the golf course. The members are generally located on the tee boxes and around the greens. Often some are required to walk the course with the more popular groupings of the day. Marshals may also be asked to be spotters for golf balls.

Shifts may vary from four to six hours.
Duties:
Crowd control and controlling noise

Media Hosting:

Volunteers joining the media committee assist with the media personnel on–site course direction and media room hosting.

Shifts may vary from four to six hours.
Duties:
Assisting the media in accessing the course and hosting media room.

Player Services:

The role of members of the Player Services committee is to assist in registering Canadian Tour players on Monday and Tuesday and helping in welcoming the Players to Winnipeg.

Thursday through Sunday
Time Commitment:
Shifts may vary from four to six hours.
Duties:
Manage player registration and answer questions from the players as required.

Security and Parking:

The role of Security and Parking volunteers is to ensure only accredited persons have access to the Clubhouse, grounds and other restricted areas; parking responsibilities including monitoring the public parking areas.

Shifts may vary from four to six hours.
Duties:
Ensure accredited zones are not comprised.

Scoring:

TThe Scoring committee is the largest committee of the tournament and requires the most volunteers. There are numerous positions available in the scoring areas – Walking Scorers, Leaderboard, Scoreboard, Standard Bearer, Runners

Time Commitment:
Shifts may vary from four to six hours.
Duties:
  • Walking Scorers walk with the players and record there scores for the live scoring function of the tournament. Volunteers must walk the eighteen holes with the players and should have some knowledge about the game of golf.
  • Leaderboard Volunteers work update the four leaderboards located around the golf course.
  • Scoreboard Volunteers volunteers update the Main Scoreboard.
  • Standard Bearers walk the eighteen holes carrying a small leaderboard of the group of players they are assigned.
  • Runners retrieve the scorecards from the players as they finish nine holes, make copies of the card for central scoring and return the scorecards to the players.

Transportation:

Volunteers on the Transportation committee drive the players to the golf course, host hotel and the airport. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE.

Time Commitment:
Shifts may vary from four to six hours. Drivers must be available early in the morning and late into the evening.
Duties:
Driving players from the host hotel and airport to the golf course. Vehicles will be provided.

Caddies:

Caddie positions are available for the Canadian Tour Players Cup. A caddie is considered employed by the players, and is not considered a volunteer, but can volunteer their services to the player. Caddies are usually paid a minimum of $30.00 per round by the player.

Caddie or golfing experience is beneficial, but not necessary. Applicants must be able to carry a large bag for all 18 holes and be available to work all four days of the tournament, Thursday to Sunday.

There will be a caddie orientation period prior to the tournament.
