Canadian Tour Announces Players Cup
Canadian Tour Commissioner Richard Janes today announced an agreement to re–brand and reposition the long–standing Winnipeg tournament. The Players Cup will feature a prize purse increase to $200,000 and an exemption into the 2008 RBC Canadian Open.
"Victoria, Edmonton and Winnipeg have been cornerstone events for a great many years," said Janes. "With the Winnipeg dates being immediately before the RBC Canadian Open, it is now ideally positioned to join the Corona Mexican PGA Championship, the Desjardins Montreal Open and the Canadian Tour Championship as the flagship events of the Canadian Tour."

Dating back to 1931, Manitoba’s premier professional golf event features a who’s who of champions. George Knudson earned three consecutive titles beginning in 1958 with Moe Norman matching that streak from 1965 through 1967. Dan Halldorson captured the title in 1977, 1978, 1983 and 1984.
The 2008 Players Cup will be played from July 14 – 20 at Pine Ridge GC and concludes the Canadian Tour’s six (6) stop Western Swing that begins June 9.
